Thank you for a lively and informative discussion which takes us as far as Dublin Corporation’s post Independence dissolution. It would be enlightening to hear the same panel carry on the story.
Perhaps the toothless Corporation that was restored in 1930 had some excuse for doing little to address the problems (particularly in housing) that led to the first incarnation’s demise. Perhaps decades of economic stagnation let these problems simmer, but in 1963 everything had come to the boil with tenements collapsing again and car ownership rising. By then the Corporation seems to have clawed back just enough power to make a hash of things, with help from Taca and the lads, in a rampage of hasty demolition and ad hoc planning. Just how did the Corporation that saw fit to build on Wood Quay come into being?
